Parks & Recreation Releases Update on its Actions Related to CONVID-19 Outbreak

Important information regarding use of public park facilities.

Dear Jamestown Families, Residents, and Friends:

In response to the Governors decision to close all the schools in the state for at a minimum one
week to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is imperative that we promote proper social
distancing behavior and cancel any activities and social gatherings during this period.  In order
to accomplish this, the Town has chosen to take the following measures to remain in line with the
actions being recommended by the Governor and the RIDOH.

•    All town athletic facilities will be closed to organized group activities until further notice.

This includes all meetings, practices, and games.  It is very important to that we treat
this matter seriously and adhere to this policy for the time being.

•     The Teen Center will remain closed while the school closure is in effect.

The Governor recommends to keep children separated and away from groups while they are kept home
from school, it would be inappropriate to host this group at our center.

•     The Community Playground will be closed to the public until further notice.

Obviously, a difficult decision, however given the popularity of the playground, which on good weather days,
receives hundreds of visitors from across the state, it has become a high- risk area for our youth,
parents, and grandparents who frequent the facility.

However, as more information and guidance is released from the Governor, RIDOH, & the CDC we will
continue to distribute information to the public.  Ultimately, public safety is paramount, and the
Town is prepared to take any necessary steps in protecting its residents.  This is an ongoing and
ever-changing situation that we will continue to monitor and update you with information relative
to our services as they become available.  Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate
this situation together.

Sincerely,

Andrew J. Wade

Director of Parks and Recreation
