Town Clerk

The Town Clerk serves as the secretary of the municipal corporation and is the keeper of the entire recorded history of the community and its people. The duties and responsibilities of this position are defined by the Rhode Island General Laws, Rhode Island Department of Health (Division of Vital Statistics), the State Constitution, the Town Charter and local ordinances. The Town Clerk is also an ex officio member of the Board of Canvassers. The Department of the Town Clerk consists the following divisions:

Initiative and Referendum Petition

The Initiative and Referendum Petition is located at: http://www.jamestownri.gov/Home/ShowDocument?id=55414 and in the left column on this webpage. Once all petition signatures are gathered in compliance with the petition form and  Jamestown Charter provisions outlined in Sec. 218, Sec. 219, and Sec. 220 located on the website at: https://library.municode.com/ri/jamestown/codes/code_of_ordinances?nodeId=PTICHRELA_SPACH_ARTIITHTOCO_S218INRE  return the petition to the Town Clerk, who will certifiy the signatures within 30 days.
